Who we are
The Catholic community is made up of many different people. We are members of God’s spiritual family on earth through the gift of Christian faith.
More specifically, Catholics are Christians who are baptized in water and confirmed by the Holy Spirit as members of the Catholic Church or People of God.
Bishops, priests and deacons are ordained to serve us, and the Bishop of Rome (Pope) is our visible Head and Pastor of the Church throughout the world.
The Church
The Church is significant to us because we believe that it is:
- the Body of Christ, God’s household on earth (Ephesians 2:19-22)
- the house where Catholics can be ‘at home’ with God, themselves and others.
- the house for worship, for listening to God’s Word and for receiving God’s mercy
